To give everyone time to download the survival game and start around the same time, the official servers are not going online for a few hours after launch to ensure everyone gets a fair chance to jump on the official servers at the same time.
This of course is a slight delay from the original launch date, but the certification time took longer than expected for ARK: Survival Ascended.
Speaking of certifications taking longer than expected, the original launch window for ARK: Survival Ascended on PlayStation was slated for late November, but that has been pushed back indefinitely as they continue working through the PS certification process.
