Blizzard Is Hiring For An “Open-World Shooter Game”, Maybe It Really Is StarCraft
They were working on one at some point, and Microsoft really wants to make use of Blizzard’s library.
Blizzard has a new game in the works and the job listings are going up. There are currently several listings on the company’s careers page with some of them noting the position would be working on an “upcoming open-world shooter game”, specifically this one for an Associate Design Director. The listing has people pondering whether the developer might be taking another whack at a StarCraft shooter.
If you missed it, back in September, when Jason Schreier’s new book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment was being promoted, a little tidbit dropped about Blizzard having planned an unnamed StarCraft shooter – following the other two StarCraft shooters that didn’t make it. Shooters are a forever popular genre and Blizzard fans do love the StarCraft universe, so it wouldn’t be the most out-of-pocket thing for them to try again. In fact, it could make sense following Microsoft stating it would like to make good use of Blizzard’s various IPs – that is, provided they can pull it off.
Since that tidbit dropped, the gaming community has been speculating. Now there’s just a bit more to speculate with. Of course, the developer could be making a shooter using another of its IPs. There are plenty to choose from.
