Despite Reports To The Contrary, XDefiant Claims It Is "Not Dying" And Drops Season 2 Details Including Private Matches
Private match mode, new Highwaymen faction, new weapons, new maps, and everything else coming in Season 2.
Two full weeks after reports surfaced regarding the uncertain future of Ubisoft's shooter XDefiant, the team is pushing back on those claims. While their retort stops short of confirming or denying that the "more players by Season 3" target is essential, the latest dev update post snaps back, "No, the game is absolutely not dying. We know there are things we need to improve like Netcode/Hitreg and adding more content to progression, but the game is doing well."
The team continues by saying that, "Ubisoft is very much behind us and has allocated more resources to the team in order for us to do that."
While that seems very "we're fine right now" to me, it doesn't address the exact nature of the reporting that Season 3 was going to be very important to the future of the game. However, the latest roadmap revealed does have a "Season 4" listed...so it is being at least planned currently.
XDefiant unveiled their full Season 2 hype train today, complete with a look at the new Highwaymen faction. Turrets, grenade launchers, and a cocky attitude are the name of the game for this chaos-loving faction. While being colorful, the entire roster of the Highwaymen is all about destruction and lethal force. Their passive increases rate of fire and reload speed upon consecutive kills. Hell, their Saw Launcher literally just throws circular saw blades around the room, pretty devastating in close quarters.
New Season 2 weapons were also shown off. These include the PP-19 SMG, L86 LMG, and the game's 4th shotgun in the SPAS-12. The video below gives you a rundown of how these weapons perform and attachments you may want to consider using from the rip.
XDefiant gets anew mode called "Bomb Mode." This mode is exactly what you probably think. You only have 1 life in this mode and attackers and defenders take turns trying to either plant a bomb or stop the bomb from detonating. Win 6 rounds to take the match.
Something players have wanted for quite some time is the ability to make private matches and Season 2 finally gets the feature in "beta". Matches can be 1v1, 2v2, trios, or whatever you want. You aren't limited by the normal mode limitations. You can use all 17 existing maps, and the new "Waterfront" map also releasing in Season 2. The "Signal" and "Air and Space" maps that will drop in Season 2 won't be available in private matches quite yet.
There will be a three-hour Season 2 test on Friday September 20th (PC only) if you want to scope out (pun intended) the upcoming additions. The season launch will happen on September 25th.
I'd link you to the full post, but the link seems to be broken right now so I'll embed the Tweet containing the link below so you can reference it when the link works again.
