It's "announcement of an announcement" day for Path of Exile, as Grinding Gear Games has made it known that the reveal for the upcoming Update 3.16: Scourge will take place on Thursday, October 14, at noon Pacific time on the Path of Exile Twitch channel.

There's a trailer to go with the reveal of the reveal, which reveals -- in ludicrously dramatic fashion -- what's likely the biggest new feature that's coming to the game: a new type of equipment. It looks rather Vaal-flavored, which probably means there's going to be some kind of corruption-based mechanic, because things weren't dark enough (or hard enough) in the game already.

The Scourge expansion will launch on October 22 at noon Pacific for PCs and on October 27 for consoles. For more information, check out the Path of Exile site.
