Kakao Games Acquires Controlling Interest In ArcheAge Developer XLGames
Black Desert Online publisher Kakao has added XLGames to its portfolio. MMOCulture is reporting that Kakao has acquired a majority stake in the ArcheAge developer. XLGames has also recently launched a mobile MMO, Moonlight Sculptor, in Korea, where it's published by Kakao. MMOCulture thinks that today's news means the companies might be getting ready for a global launch.
As for what this means for ArcheAge/ArcheAge Unchained, or at least its presence in the West where it's published by gamigo, one would think the effect would be minimal. As long as it's doing well enough in Korea, there's no reason to think it wouldn't continue to be adapted for Western audiences. Let's just hope that XLGames founder Jake Song wasn't taken by surprise by this news like he was when Trion Worlds was bought up by gamigo.
