Throne and Liberty Dev Video

If you’ve been waiting to find out more about NCSoft’s next MMORPG, Throne and Liberty (or TL for short, it seems), wait no more. In a new “Director’s Preview” video that was teased last week, NCSoft CCO Taekjin Kim dropped some interesting information about the game – including their development philosophy.

Throne and Liberty is more than just a title. The words “Throne” and “Liberty” were both chosen to represent something. The first references player battles and competition while the second is intended to indicate “the freedom to enjoy your own adventures in the game’s dynamic world.” Even “and” is apparently packed with meaning for them, as the video description puts it, it “calls to mind a place of unity, where the dividing walls of nationalities and generation gaps mean nothing.” That’s a lot of meaning packed into three little letters.

But, it fits with the ideals the COO lays out in the video, where he states that Throne and Liberty was “developed under a slogan of ‘Play For All’” and that it’s intended to be played by “players across nationalities and generations.” He even promises that the game will be available on PC and console.

The video isn’t all development philosophy. It does offer insight into the game’s design. Design Director Moonseop Lee introduces important features and details and demonstrates how the game is a “seamless living world” with dungeons that change based on different criteria. They also highlight the game’s “Free Class” system, which allows players to decide their roles based on weapons. The game also has PvP, but players can choose not to engage if they’d rather stay out of that.

The full rundown on features and systems can be seen in the video below. You will need closed captioning on. It’s about ten minutes long, so not bad for those interested in finding out more.
