Remedy Tencent Deal

Remedy Games, the developer known for Alan Wake and Max Payne, is working on a new co-op PvE shooter, currently codenamed Vanguard. Today, the developer announced a partnership with Chinese-based publisher Tencent to localize and publish the game in Asian markets.

The game is being developed for PC and console platforms using the Unreal Engine. The announcement doesn’t state which version of Unreal, but at this point, UE5 is probably a pretty safe bet. It will combine the narrative style that Remedy is known for with action gameplay in a multiplayer experience and is intended to be in line with a typical Remedy AAA game – including its budget. It’s also Remedy’s first foray into the games-as-a-service model and will be free-to-play.

Development of the game is being co-financed by both companies, with each being responsible for their own operating and publishing costs in their territories. This means that Tencent will cover the localization costs for the Asian market. As part of the deal, Remedy is also licensing the worldwide rights for a mobile version of the game to Tencent, who will cover all costs for the development and publishing of that version of the game.
