Riot Games Has Acquired "Significant" Stake In Animation Studio That Created Arcane
French studio Fortiche has "other to-be-announced projects" with Riot on tap.
Riot Games has been working with French animation studio Fortiche for nearly a decade, tapping it for work on K/DA, music videos for the League of Legends world championship, and the video that introduced Jinx to League players back in 2013. The culmination of that partnership was the acclaimed animated series Arcane, which is due to receive a second season on Netflix.
The two companies are now even more closely joined together, as it was revealed that Riot made an equity investment earlier this year in Fortiche, which Engadget described as a "'significant' but non-controlling stake." Riot's Chief Content Officer Brian Wright and Director of Corporate Development Brendan Mulligan have also joined Fortiche's board of directors.
In addition to Arcane, Fortiche apparently has "other to-be-announced projects" in the works, which the additional funding from Riot could help bring to fruition. If they're anywhere near the quality of Arcane, then that's a good thing for gamers of all interests, whether those include League of Legends or not.
