E3 2023 Canceled

Following news that Ubisoft decided not to attend E3 – in favor of hosting their own event in the same town at the same time – the ESA has announced the decision to cancel the event. This year’s E3 was intended to be the expo’s big return to a physical space after being held digitally or not at all over the last three years. Unfortunately for them, things just haven’t gone their way.

When the ESA first announced the return of E3, it was without the support of the Big 3 – Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. However, Ubisoft signed on. But, the developer just didn’t stay committed and withdrew last week, revealing they’d be holding their own event in LA instead.

Whether or not that’s the last straw might be up for debate, but the result is the same. Today, the ESA canceled E3 2023. The organization hasn’t gotten around to updating its website yet, but they’ve already sent out an email to those who applied for press passes letting them know that the event will not be taking place this year. In addition, following a report on IGN, the ESA and ReedPop issued a statement confirming the event’s cancellation.

That's yet another year the event has just been straight-up canceled. It’ll be interesting to see if the ESA makes another attempt in 2024.
