Yoshi-P’s Annual Final Fantasy XIV New Year’s Letter Promises To Bring Future Developments “To Light”
Meanwhile, Square Enix is still on their blockchain kick.
A new year has arrived and as is tradition, Yoshi-P took to the Final Fantasy XIV blog to address the Warriors of Light – and maybe just remind them a little that Final Fantasy XVI is on its way too. As is typically the case, the New Year’s Greetings letter takes a look back – way back, in this case – across his past twelve years working on the game. It’s a pretty cheery little letter and reminds players that 2023 is the ten-year anniversary of the game’s “rebirth”, otherwise known as the launch of ARR.
In honor of the milestone, the XIV team has planned a few things, including expanded Fan Festivals and other events. Yoshi-P also plans to let players in on what’s to be expected over the next ten years. But don’t expect all the details to be dropped at once. (Y’all have been here a while, you know how this works.) To start out the year with some warm fuzzies, we suggest you go read the letter in full. Of course, in typical fashion, it also includes a bit of poetry.
On a different note – not entirely related to Final Fantasy XIV, but you know Square Enix is the parent company – the developer is still hoping to take advantage of blockchain tech and they seem to think that its “volatility” will be of benefit to them. According to a post on Video Game Chronicle, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda issued a new letter detailing plans for the coming year stating that blockchain will be the biggest focus for the studio’s mid-term investments. He seems to feel that the lessons currently being learned from all the problems associated with blockchain will be of benefit. One point made in the letter is that while some countries are working to regulate blockchain business more strictly, Japan is encouraging them. That encouragement, he notes, is led by the government.
