Sky Art Book

If you’ve ever played a thatgamecompany game, you know they’re real pieces of art. They’re not designed for realism. They’re intended to be beautiful games that celebrate things like nature and community. The company’s earliest games, flOw and Flower, are good examples. As is, of course, the company’s free-to-play puzzle-adventure MMO Sky: Children of the Light. (Honestly, if you’ve never played one of their games, you should.)

Because of the artistic approach taken with their games, it makes sense that the team might decide to create an art book from at least one of them. As it turns out, the one they went with was Sky. Today, they announced a 260-page art book titled The Art of Sky: Gratitude to Nesting. The book is more than just a picture book. It’s co-authored by the game’s Narrative Writer, Jennie Kong, and Visual Development Lead Yuichiro Tanabe, and offers a look at how the game started and what went into developing it. It also features looks at the game’s various events and collaborations like the AURORA concert, and celebrates the game’s fanbase.

The Sky artbook is on pre-order starting today and will release later this summer. No specific date has been given yet. It will run players $125 plus shipping and handling. (Note that the press release said $100 even. It also stated the book is 145-pages.) More details are available on the website.
