Ubisoft Massive Is Looking For A Narrative Director (And Other Positions) For The Division 3
Not everyone is thrilled that Massive will be the team behind the third installment in the franchise.
Ubisoft's The Division is a series of games with which I have a bit of a love/hate relationship. I love the concept and they resonate with my playstyle a bit more than other open world shooter games like FarCry. Maybe it's the more tactical nature, or maybe it's the narrative that strikes me as more interesting. That said, I was pretty disappointed with both The Division and The Division 2 when they first launched.
Why? With systems that weren't quite fleshed out yet and the myriad of bugs in both, I was on the "I'll buy that a bit later" team and, as improvements were made, I found enjoyment in both titles. Waiting to play games like this also comes with the drawback of usually being always "behind" the most currnet content, though.
The Division 3 has been a bit of a rumor for a while now. We assumed that a third installment would be coming after it was teased in 2023 when Julian Gerighty was announced as the new Division brand leader, but then some recent back and forth on design decisions in The Division 2 caused a little bit of doubt to creep in. Apparently that doubt wasn't founded. Despite the rocky position Ubisoft finds itself in financially right now, Massive Entertainment is beginning work on The Division 3 as planned now that Avatar and Star Wars: Outlaws are out in the wild. The team even needs more staff on the project and some of the posts are in rather high positions.
Earlier this month the team posted a job listing for an Animation Director, but interestingly the team put up a post looking for a Narrative Director today. Obviously, if you're qualified, hit up the posts.
Not everyone is exactly thrilled with the idea of Massive being behind the third installment in the franchise, though. The team has a currently rocky relationship with players based on The Division 2 development approach lately. That, and we're likely still years away from the title releasing combine in a "well, let's wait and see" approach.
