Despite Not Having Played World Of Warcraft Much, I'm Excited For Season Of Discovery

Is this the Classic Plus y'all were hoping for? I see why now.

WoW Classic Discovery 2

Last weekend at BlizzCon 2023, World of Warcraft Classic's "Season of Discovery'' was announced. It’s kinda-sorta-almost the “Classic Plus” fans were praying for. There’s newfound class flexibility, allowing classes that were historically focused on dealing damage to also take on healing and tanking roles (among other capabilities). Old raids are being revamped and reintroduced too, with fresh bosses and mechanics that were not part of the original WoW Classic experience.

Also, the season begins with a Level Cap of 25 instead of 60. That will increase after a few months, introducing more endgame content and opportunities for character progression. In this first chapter, we get the reimagined 10-player Blackfathom Deeps raid — featuring new bosses, mechanics, and rewards. The class flexibility is featured through the new rune system, allowing players to customize their characters and gain new abilities via "rune-engraving" to unlock spells and attacks that were previously unavailable in the MMORPG.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I am stoked for this...and I didn’t even play WoW back in the day. My only experience with the game is that first month WoW Classic launched (over four years ago). I subscribed for just a month to play with some internet friends. It was fun, even though I unsubscribed after getting my $15’s worth. The reason I quit is because life was too busy for me at the time and I couldn’t keep up with my buddies. Level 60 just seemed way too far away.

But in Season of Discovery, it’s only Level 25 I need to shoot for. That seems totally doable. I remember only getting to do one dungeon back then: Ragefire Chasm. It was a blast to experience, even as someone who prefers action combat over tab targeting. I believe I played a Warlock, but also spent some time as a Mage. With the Season of Discovery, I am intrigued to see how I could possibly combine both. Perhaps a Mage with Warlock-like summons? That would be awesome.

Anyways, I’m looking forward to this iteration of Classic Plus when it launches on November 30. If you are interested too, I recommend doing your research and seeing what the Season of Discovery is all about. Do you want to be a Warlock that can transform into a demon? What about a Shaman Tank? Or even a Rogue Tank? How about a Mage Healer? Perhaps a Hunter that don’t need no Animal Companion? Maybe a Priest that can conjure up copies of themself? These all sound sick. I can’t wait to try, even if just for that first month. That seems like $15 well spent.
