An Overwatch League Player Was Terminated Via Tweet With No Prior Knowledge
This news came only a few hours after a new member was welcomed to the team.
We all have heard the horror stories of a break-up text, but what about a break-up tweet? The Overwatch League player Sang-min “Myunb0ng” Seo, who plays–played–for New York’s Overwatch League team Excelsior, recently found out that he was no longer a part of the team when his organization said goodbye to the player via a Tweet. While roster changes are usually done via social media, it is also usual that the player is informed of such changes before the release. Instead, Myunb0ng was left confused as he responded to the Tweet with a question mark.
What makes matters even worse is that several hours before the announcement, the New York Excelsior Twitter welcomed its newest support player, Soon-jae “Ansoonjae” Jae. All members, including Myunb0ng, began to congratulate and welcome the latest member with no idea that Myunb0ng had been replaced.
New York Excelsior did apologize for their mistake saying: “Today, we posted an announcement thanking Myunb0ng for his time with us, however we failed to properly communicate with the team before this announcement was made. We take full responsibility and there are no excuses. To Myunb0ng, we are deeply sorry for our miscommunication and putting you through this situation.”
While it was unintentional, the mistake is still devastating and we can only hope that New York Excelsior really will do better.
