EverQuest Year of Darkpaw

EverQuest has been around for 25 friggin’ years now.

So in celebration, the MMORPG is holding a year-long anniversary event via The Year of Darkpaw — which includes lots of fun activities and exclusive stuff for players. The festivities include new time-locked servers in the middle of the year and the release of expansions for both EverQuest and EverQuest 2 in the winter.

"We want people to celebrate 25 years of EverQuest, 20 years of EQ2, get in touch with old friends again, make new friends, and experience a nice blend of nostalgia and new things," studio head Jenn Chan told PC Gamer.

This celebration features special events such as the Anniversary Tower and Heroic Dungeons, along with exclusive mounts and items like the Argent Clockwork Bear Saddle and the Orc Warrior metamorph wand. The roadmap for 2024 includes new rulesets for Time-Locked Progression servers in May and the much-anticipated expansion release in December. EverQuest 2 is also celebrating its 20th anniversary with a darker-themed year-long event where players confront agents of the gods.

Details of the expansions set to arrive in November (EQ2's 21st) and December (EQ1's 31st) still remain a mystery though.

And by the way, in case you missed it, the DirectX 11 API Port is now live for EverQuest — providing improved graphics performance and stability, allowing the game to run in non-emulated graphics modes and paving the way for future enhancements in art.
