Star Wars: The Old Republic’s Creative Director Announces Departure As Update 7.1 Gets A Release Date
Charles Boyd moves on after 16 years on the team.
Star Wars: The Old Republic’s next update is on the way – slated to arrive on August 2nd. When it does, it will add a new eight-player operation, Darth Malgus-focused storylines, and more. It will also be the last content update to receive a release announcement with Creative Director Charles Boyd still on the team. After 16 years at Bioware, Boyd has announced he will be saying goodbye and heading down a new path in his career.
Whatever is next in Boyd’s journey is currently a mystery, as instead of focusing on that in the press release, he chose to focus on his time with SWTOR. In his statement he notes that “the Star Wars galaxy has always been a huge part of [his] life since [he] was a kid”, making his role in developing the game an “amazing experience”. He also credits the team, citing their “passion, creativity, and dedication”, and thanks everyone for their part in the “amazing journey”.
The press release also doesn’t state who – if anyone – will be taking over his position at this time, but a statement from Executive Producer Keith Kanneg seems to indicate that it'll be leadership by committee, at least in the short term, as Lead Producer Eric Musco, Narrative Director Ashley Ruhl, Lead Writer Caitlin Sullivan Kelly, UX Director Alan Copeland, and Design Director George Smith all get nods in the post.
