Following A Business Restructure, MY.GAMES Will Cease Operations In Russia, Sort Of

While an exact reason wasn't specified, it's not hard to guess...

MY.GAMES currently has about 90% of its workforce working remotely. While the development and publishing company has games running in the US, Europe, and Asia with plans to expand into LATAM, Indonesia, India, and other countries, one country being taken out of their scope will be Russia.

Don't misunderstand, MY.GAMES' business restructuring will still include opening new offices in new locations to support their operations, but the plan is to also leave the Russian market entirely.

Players of MY.GAMES products in Russia may not be tossed from their particular game of choice though. Currently, MY.GAMES plans to spin off all of its Russian business into a private Russian company, Astrum Entertainment. Once the transfer is complete, MY.GAMES will no longer receive any revenue from those products.

MY.GAMES announced the plan today via their news portal. The news is a bit weird though as there are commonalities between the ownership of MY.GAMES and the newly created Astrum Entertainment. Namely, Alexander Chachava, the owner of MY.GAMES who also has a hand in the creation of Astrum. Technically, yes, both companies are separate and MY.GAMES won't make money in Russia, but the executive involved her on both fronts very well could benefit from both entities.

Seems like an interesting way to "not do business in Russia" while still doing business in Russia, something a lot of major worldwide brands have also done over the past few years.

Since I have an account there, I was contacted a while back after My.Games got purchased by Alexander Chachava, and Leta Capital, since they wanted users to agree to the new terms of service. This seems more of a follow up after that.

I'd prefer it if they stayed in Russia with their mediocre games.
