The very first free-to-play title for the Xbox 360 and now on Steam, Happy Wars from Toylogic is a colorfully playful onslaught of your usual suspects, with perpetual war between warriors, mages, and clerics. It is referred to as a “role playing strategy game”, as character development is as equal a part of the game as battle strategy and cooperative maneuvers.

Combining tower defense with real time attacks, Happy Wars pits teams of 15 vs 15 in a battle to lay waste to each other’s castles whilst attempting to maintain their own. Three classes within Happy Wars allow players to specialize their role on the battlefield and provide much needed support to their allies providing shields, buffs, and heals.

As each class levels up further subclasses become available, including Beserker for the Warriors, Zephyr for the Mage and Engineer for the Cleric. At higher levels players are offered more unique skills to stack on top of their base attacks, creating a more diverse range of special attacks with individual strategic value that can be toggled between during battle.

Every class also has what is called a “Team Skill”, which allows them to channel their energy with other players in order to cast incredibly powerful abilities which can turn the tide of the battle. The more massive the group channeling the spell, the more powerful the ability becomes. Cooperative play is key to success in Happy Wars, as large scale coordinated attacks with all three classes is crucial in securing victory.

Happy Wars also has a hefty list of items that can be obtained through in game currency called Happy Star or its cash shop equivalent. These items function similar to TCG cards and vary in power. Each item allows you to customize your character’s looks while also adding additional stats and abilities. Unused items may also be merged with an existing item in order to increase its level and strength.

  1. We like the game but can’t play togheter with friends. We have to be friends on steam to invite each other, But to do that you have to pay money. Otherwise you can’t add friends on steam…

  2. Happy Wars is a very fun casual multiplayer game. When you’re in game it’s awesome. The animations, mechanics, and art style is all very appealing. Running around and fighting people never gets tired. Unfortuneately there are also a lot of things wrong with the game. This is why some people look for happy wars hacks like the one at http://steamcommunity.com/app/246280/discussions/0/611701999533440773/#p2 . Some of the bugs that annoy players are that it takes a lot time to enter a game and actually get started. Another is that there is no trading system.

You should try out happy wars for yourself and see if you like it!
